How we work with schools

ExcelPath Clinical TeamBCBA-Supervised

When a child receives therapy at a clinic and goes to school during the day, two worlds exist. We believe those two worlds should talk to each other.

We coordinate with schools when families want us to.

If a parent gives us permission, we connect with their child’s school team. Teachers, special education staff, school psychologists, paraprofessionals. Everyone working toward the same goals.

What does that look like?

We share strategies that work in the clinic so teachers can use them in the classroom. We help school staff understand a child’s behavior plan. We attend IEP meetings when families ask us to. We provide updates on therapy progress that can inform school goals. We answer questions from school staff about ABA, speech, or OT approaches.

Why does this matter?

Kids do not live in one setting. A skill learned in the clinic needs to transfer to the classroom, the lunch table, the playground, and the school bus. When therapists and teachers use the same language and the same strategies, kids learn faster.

Without coordination, a child might learn one set of expectations at the clinic and face a different set at school. That is confusing for any kid, especially one who struggles with transitions.

For school professionals:

If you are a teacher, school counselor, social worker, or special education coordinator and you have a student who might benefit from ABA, speech, or occupational therapy, we would be happy to talk.

We can explain how our services work, what EIDBI covers, and how to help a family get started. No referral paperwork is needed to have a conversation. Call us at (612) 607-3861.
